Colombian Arequipe (Dulce de Leche)

I N G R E D I E N T S 

3 quarts milk
2 lbs. Bogopa Granulated Sugar
a pinch of Bogopa Iodized Salt
1/4 t. baking soda
1 cinnamon stick
2 Bogopa Large Egg yolks

 
 
I N S T R U C T I O N S
1. Combine the first 5 ingredients in a saucepan and simmer until thickened.

2. Stir constantly, preferably with a wooden spoon, until you can see the bottom of the saucepan while stirring (about 4-5 hours).

3. Add the egg yolks and let it cook for 2 or 3 minutes longer. Remove the cinnamon stick. Let it cool. This recipe must be watched constantly. Enjoy.
 
 
There is also a shortcut for preparing Arequipe.
You can make your own homemade Arequipe or Dulce de Leche by simply placing an unopened can of Bogopa Sweetened Condensed Milk in a pot of boiling water for 2-3 hours, constantly adding water to keep the can covered. Let the can cool down for 30 min before opening. Once the can has cooled, open it up and enjoy!
